CLAY COUNTY, Tenn.- About 30 animals are now resting comfortably after being rescued from a home in Clay County.

The Clay County Sheriffs Department and Humane Society of the United States teamed up on the mission. They found dogs, cats, birds, rabbits and a duck crammed into a manufactured home in horrible conditions.

Most of the animals were in cramped crates, said Leighann McCollum, the Tennessee State Director of the Humane Society of the United States, there was feces everwhere, urine everwhere. These animals had not been fed in quite some time.

McCollum and her crew delivered the animals to the Happy Tales Humane Society in Franklin, where they were moved into clean crates and given food and water.

We always try and do what we can to help, said Happy Tales Executive Director Kat Hitchcock, It is horrible to see these animals so traumatized.

Humane Society officials said the animals will be checked out by a veterinarian, and should eventually be able to go up for adoption.

Some may require a little more TLC, said McCollum, but they will get there.

The owner of the animals, Mary Ann Kay, is in the Clay County jail charged with aggravated animal cruelty.
