    Machinima running Mortal Kombat Legacy 2 commercial during AMC’s the …

    Machinima recently purchased ad time on the AMC television show, The Talking Dead which airs after The Walking Dead. This will be the first time a YouTube network will run a traditional advertisement on TV.

    The commercial will be a 60 second trailer for the upcoming online series, Mortal Kombat Legacy 2 and will be shown tomorrow, Easter Sunday. You can check out the commercial below.

    FCC Introduces “Experimental Authorization” Program To Give Commercial …

    The FCC has had its Experimental Authorization program (which temporarily licenses spectrum on an as-needed basis) for a while now, but today marks the first time that program has been extended to commercial space flight. The plan allows companies to apply for spectrum on a temporary basis so they can safely operate their missions, as scheduled.

    As it stands now, companies like SpaceX (with its Dragon resupply missions to the ISS and Falcon9 rocket launches), and XCOR Aerospace and Space Expedition Corporation (who have introduced the LINX for quick trips to space and back) must request spectrum on an as-needed basis. And there are no insurances that theyll get what they need, when they need it, to facilitate communication with these space crafts.

    In response, Chairman Julius Genachowski has put forward a proposal to carve out spectrum specifically for the commercial space industry.

    Heres FCC Chairman Julius Genachowskis official statement:

    Our actions today are designed to accelerate the growth of a new American industry with major growth potential, commercial space launches. Companies cant launch or operate space vehicles without spectrum, and today the US is leading the way in developing rules of the road for commercial space launches. Our measures to streamline processes and increase predictability will help boost US leadership in the commercial space industry.

    According to the release, which offers guidance to companies wishing to license spectrum for space missions, companies can submit an application after getting an FCC registration number. The Commission suggests submission of applications at least 90 days in advance of any launch.

    Though all spectrum used in the Experimental Authorization program are government-issue, theyre being rented out, so to say, on a non-interference basis. This means that the licensed operations can neither cause interference nor claim protection from interference.

    The Experiemental Authorization grants will last for six months after being granted and they are renewable.

    Citrus Heights police seek suspect in commercial burglary

    Citrus Heights police seek to identify a suspect in the burglary of a commercial complex that occurred early this morning.

    Between midnight and 8 am, someone forced entry to a business complex through the roof, then broke through the walls of adjoining businesses to enter a convenience store in the 12400 block of Fair Oaks Boulevard.

    Preliminary investigation determined that money had been taken from the business, according to a Police Department news release. No employees were at the affected businesses when the break-ins occurred.

    Graphene loudspeaker could rival commercial speakers and earphones

    Researchers in the US have made a graphene loudspeaker that has an excellent frequency response across the entire audio frequency range (20Hz20kHz). While the speaker has no specific design, it is already as good as, or even better than, certain commercial speakers and earphones in terms of both frequency response and power consumption.

    Loudspeakers work by vibrating a thin diaphragm. These vibrations then create pressure waves in surrounding air that produce different sounds depending on their frequency. The human ear can detect frequencies of between 20Hz (very low pitch) and 20KHz (very high pitch), and the quality of a loudspeaker depends on how flat its frequency response is that is, the consistency of the sound it produces over the entire 20Hz20KHz range.

    Thanks to its ultralow mass, our new graphene loudspeaker fulfils this important requirement because it has a fairly flat frequency response in the human audible region, says team leader Alex Zettl of the University of California, Berkeley. He told physicsworld.com that the fact that graphene is also an exceptionally strong material means that it can be used to make very large, extremely thin film membranes that efficiently generate sound.

    Because the graphene diaphragm is so thin, the speaker does not need to be artificially damped (unlike commercial devices) to prevent unwanted frequency responses, but is simply damped by surrounding air. This means that the device can operate at just a few nano-amps and so uses much less power than conventional speakers a substantial advantage if it were to be employed in portable devices, such as smartphones, notebooks and tablets.

    High-fidelity sound

    The Berkeley researchers made their loudspeaker from a 30nm thick, 7mm wide sheet of graphene that they had grown by chemical vapour deposition (CVD). They then sandwiched this diaphragm between two actuating perforated silicon electrodes coated with silicon dioxide to prevent the graphene from accidentally shorting to the electrodes at very large drive amplitudes. When power is applied to the electrodes, an electrostatic force is created that makes the graphene sheet vibrate, so creating sound. By changing the level of power applied, different sounds can be produced. These sounds can easily be heard by the human ear and also have high fidelity, making them excellent for listening to music, for example, says Zettl.

    The researchers have already tested their device against high-quality commercial earphones of a similar size (SennheiserMX-400) and found that its frequency response over the 20Hz to 20kHz range is comparable, if not better.

    The Berkeley team says that its CVD technique for fabricating the speaker is very straightforward and could easily be scaled up to produce even larger-area diaphragms and thus bigger speakers. The configuration we describe could also serve as a microphone, adds Zettl.

    Pepsi commercial filmed in Mahwah deli to air nationally

    MAHWAH Fardale Deli and Mini Mart on Forest Avenue will appear in a Pepsi commercial that will air nationally, Mahwah Patch reported.

    While he did not reveal the premise of the commercial or when it will air, Wyckoff resident Teddy Yoon, location manager for the shoot, said he the deli was ideal for the ad.

    Forty to fifty staff members were at the deli Thursday and Friday to film the commercial. Ronak Patel, whose family owns the deli, said the commercial has been a morale-booster after the store was recently robbed.

    Commercial Truck Rolls Over on I-80

    Snow-covered roads may be to blame for several accidents reported across the Valley Saturday morning.

    Traffic was slow-moving on Interstate 80 beginning around 8:30 am when a commercial truck rolled over.

    The accident happened in the westbound lanes of the interstate, between the Girard and Salts Springs Road exit.

    The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital.

    Bird, Russell Hilarious in New Spot

    I cant be the only one who feels this way. And apparently Im not.

    Every time Ive seen one of those Its Not Complicated ATamp;T commercials where actorBeck Bennett tries to make sense of some colorful answers from a group of children, Ive always thought the same thing: Cant we get rid of these kids already and swap them out for a Hall of Fame quartet?

    OK, so maybe it hasnt entered my mind every time. Maybe never.

    But luckily for you and me, some marketing whiz over at ATamp;T saw some potential in surrounding Bennett with some of basketballs biggest names: Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.

    Bennett asks the group a simple question, In basketball, is it better to be bigger or smaller?

    The group answers with a resounding Bigger, then Bennett attempts to high-five each of the larger-than-life heroes of the hardwood. Bennett dishes out high-fives to Johnson, Bird and Abdul-Jabbar, but the commercial cuts away as he returns to his seat only to see Russells hand looming far above his head.

    The tagline for the ad follows the same pattern used for Bennetts previous spots: Its not complicatedbigger is better.

    I know Im going out on a limb here, but Im guessing Johnson helped orchestrate the commercial. He gave basketball fans a 13-year sample size of his superhuman vision.Not to mention hes the only basketball star to get a solo line in the piece.

    For whoever was the real person (or persons) behind the ad campaign, let me just say this: Thank you. Ive always enjoyed the banter between Bennett and the kids (at least the first time Ive seen the spot), but pairing these four stars together is something that will never get old.

    VKP, Padmasoorya reunite for Sania Mirza commercial

    Post a highly-successful season in Mollywood, director V K Prakash has gone back to his passion of making ad films and also has actor and aspiring ad filmmaker Padmasoorya Govind for company.

    The two, who have worked together in Netholi Oru Cheriya Meenalla, has just wrapped up work on a national advertisement in Mumbai that has tennis star Sania Mirza as the face of the campaign.
    Padmasoorya, who himself has directed a few advertisements recently, tells us, Working with VKP is fun. My character represents South India in the ad and though the shoot was only for two days, there were so many things I could learn working with experienced people like VKP and cinematographer Sudeep Chatterjee of Guzaarish fame.
    The actor also praises VKPs energy levels on the set. He just makes you feel you have known him for years and has the entire set in splits most of the time, cracking jokes. Even if he wants a re-take, he would tell you that the previous shot was nothing short of awesome but one more take, please.
    Padmasoorya, who had worked behind the camera for a commercial last year, says that working for an ad encourages one to experiment. The best thing about ads is that you have a good budget, and time and space to experiment. You become more aware of the technical aspects of filmmaking because you are focusing on the beauty and the feel of the entire featurette, he says, adding that he attributes the aesthetic appeal of movies of ad filmmakers-turned-directors to these factors.

    Commercial Real Estate Finance Market Shows New Life

    (NewsUSA) – Until recently, the commercial real estate market has made a sluggish recovery from the nations economic recession. The good news is that property values, rental rates and occupancy rates are improving, and commercial real estate appears to be gaining critical traction.

    Lower interest rates have started to help create larger demand from borrowers — who are already feeling some effects of the improving real estate market — which is giving the commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) market some rejuvenation.     Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Ray Conner earned $1.87 million in 2012

    Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Ray Conner received $1.87 million in salary and cash bonuses in 2012, according to a report filed Friday the with Securities and Exchange Commission.

    His base salary for 2012 was $633,321.

    The filing shows Conner received the equivalent of $7.8 million overall in 2012, including stock awards, stock options and other deferred compensation.

    This leaves him behind both Jim Albaugh, whom he replaced, and Jim McNerney, CEO and chairman of the Boeing Co.

    Albaugh got $4.2 million in pay and cash incentives, and a total of $9.6 million overall in 2012, according to the filing. McNerney received $12.7 million in pay and cash incentives, and a total of $27.5 million.

    But Conner wasnt appointed to his position until June of 2012. Before that, he was the companys senior vice president for sales, Commercial Aviation Services and marketing.

    The filing is in preparation for the April 23 Boeing annual meeting, to be held in Chicago.

    The Business Journal recently published an in-depth profile of Conner, which included the first extensive interview he has granted since taking over for Albaugh last summer.
